"Our health care system needs change. Instead of real health care, we have only sick care. Instead of natural foods, we have processed, chemicalized foods. Instead of nutrition and natural supplement research, we have only studies paid for by the drug companies. Our commitment to you is to find the answers to your wellness questions through scientific research and public education." Al Sears, MD, Founder | |
Purpose of Funding ResearchTo test the effectiveness and safety of testosterone replacement in aging men.The objective of this research study is to conduct clinical trials determining the value and safety of testosterone treatment on men 65 years of age and older with testosterone levels below the physiologic levels of young adult men. The incidence of men with one or more symptoms related to low testosterone increases with age while the blood levels of testosterone decline with age. This finding is consistent with the recent Institute of Medicine Report. Testosterone replacement will be tested to determine whether it reduces key symptoms like weakness/frailty/disability, sexual dysfunction, cognitive dysfunction, and impaired vitality/well-being/quality of life. Our preliminary research shows evidence of symptom reduction in aging men using testosterone replacement. Extensive literature analysis reveals no previous studies answering this question. Our proposed research is a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded, prospective study of the effectiveness and safety of testosterone replacement in aging men. Possible preventive effects and potential adverse effects will be included in the research criteria. We will measure blood levels through laboratory testing and lifestyle quality through a standard questionnaire. In Palm Beach County, we have access to a high population of aging men for testing. Dr. Sears, the principal researcher, has a medical practice of more than 1,000 elders. He also writes a monthly national newsletter subscribed to by more than 60,000 men, mostly elders. The study will last six months and involve 200 study participants. Research Funding Pending Wellness Research Foundation, a non-profit organization, qualifies under 501 (c) (3) of the IRS code.
